A seasoned broadcast and content executive, Christine has brought a profound passion and understanding of the media business to every role in her career. Most recently she served as Chief Content Officer, Chief Creative Officer and an SVP of Content for Shaw Media from September 2014 to June 2016. In these roles, she oversaw the Shaw Media Content team (creation of Canadian original productions and acquisition of top U.S. and international series); marketing and scheduling for the company’s conventional television network, Global Television, and 19 specialty channels; and the content strategy for brand related digital platforms.
With more than 34 years of experience in the media and production industry, she joined Shaw Media (then Canwest) in 2005 as VP Original content and was responsible for the development and commissioning of all genres of Canadian original programming. During this time, she had a major focus on Canadian productions for both Global and the specialty networks, commissioning over 700 hours of Canadian content in an average year. She spearheaded a number of complex, international co-productions including smash hits- Vikings, Rookie Blue, Haven, Copper and Beauty and the Beast.
Christine also held a variety of senior positions in both broadcast and production organizations, including The W Network, Blueprint Entertainment, Landscape Entertainment Canada, EVP of Canadian Drama for Alliance Atlantis Television and Alliance Communications, and Production Executive and Casting Director for CBC Television.
Ms. Shipton has served on many Boards in the Media industry including the Academy Of Canadian Cinema And Television, Hot Docs, the NSI, and the Banff Television Festival.
