Partner and Strategic Counsel, Don Carmody Television
In 2013 John Barrack helped found and is a partner in the Toronto-based production house Don Carmody Television (DCTV). DCTV is a division of Don Carmody Productions (DCP), one of North America’s most successful producers of premium content since 1980. By enlisting top talent and participating in partnerships across the USA and worldwide, DCP has produced 100+ projects for cinema and television, including Best Picture Academy Award-winner® Chicago. Recent productions include Between, an original series for Netflix and City, and ShadowHunters for Freeform and Netflix, along with the recent Emmy nominated mini-series The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe for Lifetime and the NHK-Netflix original mini-series Tokyo Trial.
John is also President and Founding Partner of Amazement Parks Canada Inc. (APC). APC is building a fully digital Amazement Park, which will offer guests a one of a kind experience unique to the GTA park.
John continues to maintain a private law practice serving a wide variety of corporate and not-for-profit clients both inside and outside of the media and entertainment sector. From 1999 to 2012, John served the Canadian Media Production Association for over twelve years in a variety of capacities.
John has served on a variety of boards including as a member of the executive committee of the International Producer Association (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films), The Canadian Retransmission Collective, ISAN Canada, Shelternet for Abused Women, and is currently Chair of Canadian Network of Women’s Shelters’ Leading Men initiative.
