Chief Executive Officer, Boat Rocker Media
John Young was born and raised in Loch Lomond, Scotland and graduated with honours from the Dundee Law School at the University of Dundee. He also received a Diploma in Legal Practice from Glasgow University.
Mr. Young is the Chief Executive Officer of Boat Rocker Media, a global entertainment company that creates, produces and distributes premium content and brands for all platforms; producing shows such as Orphan Black, The Next Step, Being Erica, Killjoys, Say Yes to the Dress Canada and Lost & Found Music Studios.
Before the establishment of Boat Rocker Media, John Young acted as the Managing Director of Temple Street Productions. He oversaw the day to day operations, and spearheaded the company’s move into branded content and digital media, acting as the lead on deals with some of Canada’s largest brands.
Mr. Young previously served in various roles for the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System pension fund (OMERS), including Managing Director of OMERS Private Equity.
Mr. Young serves on the Board of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. He is also a member on the advisory committee to Cara Operations. He has served on the Board of Sir Corp, the advisory board of ONEX Partners L.P. and served as Chairman of the Board of Golf Town.
He previously served as Vice Chairman of the Toronto International Film Festival Group’s Steering Committee, and in 2005 was voted as one of Canada’s top 40 under 40 in-house counsel.
Mr. Young is a graduate of the Directors Governance College at University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Business.
